The UK’s longest continually running theatre has today announced a host of new productions, finishing off Nancy Medina’s first season as Artistic Director.

This new season will see two stars from the legendary Harry Potter film series take to the Bristol Old Vic stage with Tom Felton (Malfoy) appearing in the world premiere of Gareth Farr’s A Child of Science, directed by Matthew Dunster, and Geraldine Somerville (Lily Potter) starring in Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, directed by Atri Banerjee.

Running from Tuesday 7 to Saturday 11 May 2024, Atri Banerjee’s acclaimed production of The Glass Menagerie – Tennessee Williams’ semi-autobiographical masterpiece – is an intimate and intense memory play that explores the complex web of love and loyalty that binds family together.

A Child of Science is written by Bruntwood Prize winner Gareth Farr and directed by acclaimed West End director Matthew Dunster. Running at the theatre from Wednesday 5 June to Saturday 6 July 2024, the play tells the story of Patrick Steptoe, Robert Edwards, and Jean Purdy who, in 1978, changed the world as we know it with the creation of IVH.

These aren’t the only Bristol Old Vic shows freshly announced though, new productions coming to The Weston Studio include a Young Company adaptation of The Roaring Girls; Nanny, a comedy play with songs from a star-studded writing team; solo show Dear Young Monster; and PIAF – the tale of Edith Piaf.

There will also be an exciting programme of family shows including the return of Zog and the Flying Doctors, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Dragons and Mythical Beasts Live and family comedy King Arthur in addition to The Farm and The Clown in the Weston Studio – adapted from Marla Frazee’s picture book.

That isn’t all, Bristol Old Vic are also hosting a New Year’s Eve House Party like no other with a mirror ball dance floor, a sax player playing singalong hits from the 80s and 90s, live music from The ZuZu Men, stunning magic from internet sensation Kieran The Mighty, and a non-stop silent disco in Cooper’s Hall!.
