Our favourite Bristol delivery services, from cocktails to coffee beans

Posted on: 05 Jun 2020

Independent businesses of all shapes and sizes across Bristol have launched home delivery services as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

Life has been turned upside down in a number of ways over the past few months. The coronavirus lockdown, imposed in the UK on Monday 23 March, has forced businesses across the country to adapt to ensure their survival.

For most of us at home, bars being shut has meant we've not been able to get our hands on a pint or a decent cocktail, closed cafes and bakeries have denied us the luxury of a decent coffee, and pub roasts have become than a distant memory.

For a few weeks it felt like life had come to a standstill, but in a short time, Bristol's wonderful independents have found a way to restore some normality by introducing a stellar range of delivery services.

Offering up everything from craft beer to cocktails, coffee beans and much more, read on for a rundown of our favourite new delivery services bringing top-notch products direct to front doors in and around Bristol during lockdown.

Flipside's Cocktails 2 You.

Cocktails 2 You by Flipside Cocktail Club

Anybody can throw some booze and mixer together in their kitchen and call it a cocktail, but aren't you missing a proper cocktail, prepared by a professional and served over the bar?

Flipside Cocktail Club's new Cocktails 2 You service has had the bar team working tirelessly over the last three weeks, churning out top-notch cocktails to postcodes across the city.

For just £30 you can get a Flipside Cocktail Box delivered direct to your door, which includes six cocktails of your choice from a selection of classic creations, as well as a bag of ice, all the garnishes, and easy-to-follow pouring instructions for each of your drinks.

We managed to get our hands on a box when they launched, and thoroughly enjoyed a few drinks in the sunshine. Head to the Cocktails 2 You Instagram page to browse their full menu and find out how to order.

The Cider Box

The Westcountry is known far and wide for its cider, and with good reason. Some of the country's top producers are set up in the greater Bristol area, and The Cider Box recently launched its brand-new home delivery service with that in mind.

Stocking top-quality tipples from renowned cidermakers like Hecks, Pilton and Ganley & Naish, The Cider Box have put together a one-stop-shop for cider lovers across the city.

From all-encompassing mixed cases to boxed ciders, speciality meads, beers, wines and even Somerset cheddar, we're sure you'll find what you're looking for on The Cider Box Store if you've been missing a pint of the good stuff.

Pinkman's

Undoubtedly one of the most popular bakeries in central Bristol, Pinkman's got hearts racing a few weeks ago when they confirmed they'd be running an all-new delivery service.

Following an overwhelming wave of requests from the public, Pinkmans added their much-loved Sourdoughnuts to the takeaway menu just a week after launch, and they've been inundated with orders ever since.

With a minimum order of £15 and a £2.50 delivery charge, Pinkmans' online shop is stocked with fresh bread, speciality coffee, cured meats, eggs, bits for the cupboard and more.

Friska at Home

A popular and growing coffee shop chain before lockdown hit, Friska have become a Bristol staple since their opening back in 2009. As well as a range of coffees, you'll find healthy, freshly-prepared dishes including curries, wraps and stews.

Following the closure of their three Bristol branches in March as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, Friska put together a special delivery menu to allow regulars to enjoy a selection of drinks and dishes from home.

Find an array of speciality coffees, delicious hot and cold food and even weekly essentials on the Friska at Home site, with deliveries made every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Sunday Roasts from The Cloak & Dagger

The Cloak & Dagger were one of the unlucky few venues to have been hit by the coronavirus outbreak in their infancy, having opened just four months before the lockdown came into force.

Originally billed as a new, unique events space for the Stokes Croft/Montpelier area, the Cheltenham Road bar went on to open their kitchen for a weekly Sunday Roast service, earning a solid reputation before they were forced to close.

Cooked by a skilled team using fresh, local and responsibly-sourced ingredients, The Cloak & Dagger's Sunday roast delivery is one of the best we've been able to get our hands on so far - find a full review here.

Head to the Cloak & Dagger website to browse their full menu and find out how to put an order in for this weekend.

Wild Beer Co.

Different people are offering different advice as to what to do with your time during a lockdown. Some are advocating home exercise routines, some are sharing the books they're reading, and some are hosting online cooking classes.

That's all well and good for the weekdays, but with pubs closed across the city, where do you go - or who do you call - when the weekend rolls around and you need a drink?

Bristol is home to a wide range of top-notch breweries, crafting an array of classic and unique beers, ciders and more at locations across the city. Of a wide range of local breweries running delivery services during lockdown, Wild Beer Co. get the nod from us.

From the tangy Pogo pale ale to their fresh-tasting Yokai and rich Millionaire salted caramel stout, Wild Beer have got a great range of beers on offer, available in mixed or single-variety cases from their online store.

We'd recommend going for their Mixed Case Cans to sample the full range of flavours on offer from one of the South West's top breweries.

Chapple & Jenkins

Independent wholesaler Chapple & Jenkins wasted no time in setting up a home delivery service for Bristol once pubs, bars and other stockists were forced to close as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

Delivering everything from wine and beer to confectionary, tinned goods, dried fruit, vegetables and cleaning products, Chapple & Jenkins are fully-stocked with thousands of products, ready to support the local community during the ongoing pandemic.

What's more is they're currently offering FREE next-day delivery to Bristol postcodes, meaning you can get your hands on last-minute essentials for any occasion in the knowledge that they'll be with you in a matter of hours if you place your order before 17:00.
