If it’s the creatures of cinema you’re interested in, Forbidden Worlds Film Festival 2023 has got you covered. King Kong's 90th anniversary will be celebrated with an anniversary screening of the 1933 classic plus special guests discussing the influence of its ground-breaking special effects influenced by the likes of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson.
There will also be a 65th-anniversary screening of Harryhausen’s first colour movie, The 7the Voyage of Sinbad, accompanied by a talk from the legendary animator’s daughter, Vanessa Harryhausen. Other creature features showing at this year’s festival are sci-fi action favourite The Terminator, eerie childhood fable Return to Oz and many more.
The festival will also celebrate the recent Best Actress Oscar winner (for Everything Everywhere All at Once), Michelle Yeoh. Moving away from her acclaimed roles in James Bond, Crazy Rich Asians and more, Forbidden Worlds will be showing her earlier appearances in Hong Kong action films: Royal Warriors, The Heroic Trio and Police Story 3: Supercop.
Finally, 20th Century Flicks have reached deep down into their archives to choose a selection of cult and classic genre films. The roster includes a new restoration of sci-fi horror Invaders from Mars, cult horror Pumpkinhead, John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13, The Way of the Dragon and much more.
With more than 50% of screening tickets already gone for this much-loved festival, which debuted in 2022, film lovers would be advised to act quickly. Both weekend and screening tickets are available to purchase now from the Forbidden Worlds website.
