Multi-faceted rap sensation Rejjie Snow is coming to Bristol

The Irish hip-hop star has returned with a new single, ahead of the release of his third studio album and will head out on a rare European tour later this year.

 

Rejjie Snow will play Bristol’s SWX on Friday 15 November 2024.

 

By most metrics, Rejjie Snow appears to be a rap artist and while that is technically true, he doesn’t see it that way and, in any case, the simplicity of the label (or any label, really) obscures what makes him different, which is pretty much everything. He is one of rap’s most intriguing voices and this is sure to prove a popular show!

Rejjie Snow’s outsider credentials go further: still “I thought I’d be blacklisted from hip-hop for being Irish”, he says, but that’s not the most obvious thing setting him apart. It’s not that he grew up as the only black kid on Dublin’s Northside, where there is no music scene to speak of. It’s that Rejjie is a scene unto himself.

 

He lives wherever his suitcase lands, wherever the songs take him – Los Angeles, New York, London – making albums in the midst of making others and tangling words into complex knots that blur biographical details with fantasy over a shifting mass of loops, technicolour keys and trippy percussion.

 

Then there’s his voice, deep and otherworldly, able to ride a beat with metronomic precision, whether it’s over raw piano or a soul rock jazz groove. His influences are as eclectic as George Michael and Charles Bukowski, and he paints and designs clothes. He could have had a career as a footballer, but instead, he’s toured with Madonna!

 

As well as Bristol, the UK and Ireland leg of Rejjie Snow’s upcoming European tour will see him play venues in Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Cardiff, Brighton and London.
