Six Bristol vintage shops you need to try

Posted on: 08 Apr 2024

Bristol is oft-renowned for the style of it’s citizens – funky, idiosyncratic fits that speak volumes about the creative and independent spirit of the people wearing them.

Something else Bristolians often care deeply about is sustainability – no fast fashion here please! Thrifting and vintage shopping are more popular than ever as people try to cut newly-made global fast fashion out of their habits – also enabling shoppers to mix and match styles from across decades, rather than being beholden to what’s in style now.

However, the flipside of such prominence is that sometimes there’s simply too much choice! Where has the goods, and where is just a pile of coloured t-shirts? Where is truly affordable, and where are you being upcharged for the ‘vintage’ name? Stop panicking! Take a breath. Everything’s okay – 365Bristol is here to give you a list of top vintage shops to get your style shining bright.

Repsycho – BS7

From its electric yellow shopfront, to it’s Alfred Hitchcock sign, RePsycho immediately oozes eye-grabbing style, and the clothes within are no different. A great place to pick up some vibrant patterned dungarees, or some Americana-style jeans and jumpers, RePsycho also sits just above sister shop Prime Cuts – a hidden gem basement record shop, also dealing in secondhand.

VintageBuyDan – BS7

Just down the road from RePsycho, VintageBuyDan is the place to go for vintage jewellery. A dragonlike hoard, VBD features pools and bowls of rings, necklaces, bangles and more – alongside display cases, and feature items.

Also known to host special one-off sales with large jumble displays, VintageBuyDan is a haven if you love to hunt through stock in the hopes of finding an astonishing treasure for an astonishing price.

Blank Vintage – BS3

A real unicorn of the vintage world, Blank Vintage is a well-kept secret that only opens on Saturdays. Operating out of a tiny unit in the Windmill Hill Business Park, Blank is the home of some truly staggering deals – with large, authentically vintage items like overcoats and dresses as low as £5.

Revival Market – BS3

Not far from Blank, and one of East Street’s most beloved businesses, Revival Market is just the sort of independent, eclectic vintage house that’s a joy to pick through. Full of strange and interesting pieces, all of their stock is hand-picked by the team behind Revival, and also includes plenty of vintage knick-knacks and furniture.

Sobey’s at the Arcade Bristol – BS1

Sobey’s are real masters of style – a shop that balances quality and affordability with no compromise involved, Sobey’s offer both vintage and reworked clothing; another sustainable tactic to help fight fast fashion, whilst saving old clothes destined for an ignominious fate and creating a whole new synthesis of style!

As if that wasn’t enough, Sobey’s are based out of a vintage building – the Grade-II* listed, Georgian-architecture Broadmead Arcade, that dates back to 1825.

Uncle Sam’s Vintage – BS1

One of Bristol’s oldest vintage shops, Uncle Sam’s have been operating for 40 years now, and bill themselves as “Bristol’s original and best vintage”. As the name suggests, they mainly peddle retro American vintage – from biker jackets, to Hawaiian shirts, and cowboy boots, it’s a time machine of a vintage shop, and a treasured relic in and of itself!
