Celebrated Sunday Markets return to Broadmead

Posted on: 18 Mar 2024

After a much-missed absence, Sunday Markets are returning to the high streets of Broadmead once more via local a not-for-profit events company.

Broadmead is Bristol’s city centre high street – which, in 2024, means that it’s an endangered species half-clinging on to life. Now, thanks to another lively initiative from Broadmead’s hard-working BID (Business Improvement District) team, Broadmead may be receiving another much-needed jolt of life-giving electricity.

Previously, Broadmead hosted Sunday markets that gave established and new retailers alike the chance to show their wares and attract new custom – while customers got another space to shop for unexpected delights.

With the absence of these markets sorely felt, the BID have worked to revive them, partnering with local not-for-profit Better Events to deliver a new programme of Sunday markets running through April and October, and beginning on Sunday 7 April – under the name Better Sundays.

The markets are promised to have a real focus on ethical shopping and sustainability, with more than 20 local, ethical and sustainable traders as part of the market’s line-up. While there haven’t been any concrete details as to who to expect, Better Sundays’ social media presence have hinted at everything from food stalls and cake makers, to vintage clothing, jewellery, art and handmade African baskets.

The markets will apparently also play host to a number of activities workshops and entertainment throughout its April-October run, with the nature of the workshops and entertainment changing each time.

Better Sundays is being delivered as one of the activities under the City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme, funded by Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority’s Love our High Street project, and can be found in Broadmead West, in between Tesco and The Arcade Bristol.
