Bold new event brings jazz & climate activism together

Posted on: 21 Feb 2024

Alpaca Presents, Bristol event promoters, have announced a new event combining climate awareness activism and modern jazz – Circadia, hosted at the Jam Jar.

Alpaca Presents are a fast-rising event promotion company local to Bristol – since forming in 2022, they’ve quickly become one of the more prolific promoters in the city, regularly selling out shows at beloved venues like Crofters Rights and Exchange, and have more recently signed a number of local acts as management.

Now, Alpaca are bringing their power to bear for good – they’ve teamed up with two brilliant bands and activist Dominique Palmer to deliver a night of climate activism and modern jazz to the Jam Jar. Called ‘Circadia’, AP state the aim of the gig as “to raise the issue of climate change in a creative and authentic setting – a high-energy jazz concert – in order to resonate with people in a genuinely impactful way.”

The night will feature performances from two acclaimed Bristol-based groups – Run Logan Run & Jakabol.

Run Logan Run are a cutting-edge jazz four piece who have been fusing surging polyrhythms and screaming sax since 2016 – having performed across the world, they received the Jazz Talent award from the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in 2019.

Jakabol are at the forefront of Bristol’s experimental scene, bringing together everything from folk to hard-hitting riffs and more. They performed as backing to acclaimed local poet Malaika Kegoode’s show ‘Outlier’ in 2021, and have received critical acclaim for their latest album, ‘Jaded Temple’.

Delivering a keynote in-between the bands will be Dominique Palmer, a climate activist who has worked with organisations including the BBC & the United Nations, speaking on empowerment and agency for young creatives facing the climate crisis.

Circadia takes place at the Jam Jar on Sunday 14th April – 10% of all ticket sales will be donated to Avon Wildlife Trust, so get your tickets now on Headfirst. For more information on Alpaca Events, check out their website
