An electronic music pioneer is coming to Bristol in May

Synth-pop legend Gary Numan is embarking on a lengthy UK tour across May and June to celebrate the 45th anniversary of his 1979 albums Replicas and The Pleasure Principle.

 

Gary Numan is set to play O2 Academy Bristol on Monday 27 May 2024.

 

One of the most influential figures in alternative and dance music ever since his ascension in the late 1970s, Numan is celebrated for dystopian, sci-fi-esque work. This upcoming UK tour will see him celebrate two of his most acclaimed records and is sure to prove popular with his dedicated fanbase!

Gary Numan first perforated the public consciousness as the frontman of pioneering new wave band Tubeway Army and the band’s 1979 album Replicas established the Londoner’s status as a singular musical mind, becoming the first of three consecutive Gold selling, chart-topping records.

 

Numan’s debut solo record, The Pleasure Principle, was released the same year. A dreamy synth-pop offering that features the singer’s now legendary track, ‘Cars’ which remains a worldwide hit to this day. The follow-up, Telekon, proved yet another smash hit, adding elements of funk to his unsettling brand of synth-pop.

 

Dance came in 1981, and saw Numan somewhat shed the machine-like quality of his music while 1982's I, Assassin incorporated more disparate influences and further developed an icy, dark alien persona.

 

The 90s saw Numan turn more into the world of dance with a succession of industrial techno-inspired releases and has continued to release acclaimed material ever since. One of electronic music’s most renowned artists, Numan has inspired such luminaries as Kanye West, Prince, The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Nine Inch Nails and Interpol.

 

In addition to Bristol, the UK leg of Gary Numan’s 45th-anniversary tour of his 1979 albums Replicas and The Pleasure Principle will see him play venues in Norwich, Sheffield, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, London, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Birmingham and Nottingham.
