Bristol punks IDLES announced as End of the Road festival headliners for 2024

Posted on: 08 Feb 2024

Alongside shoegaze pioneers Slowdive, art-rock luminary Fever Ray and indie-folk artists Bonnie Prince Billy, the Bristol four-piece will bring their punchy sound to this hidden gem of a festival.

End of the Road festival runs at Larmer Tree Gardens from Thursday 29 August until Sunday 1 September 2024.

Set to the backdrop of Tollard Royal’s Larmer Tree Gardens, End of the Road is the final festival of the season – hence the name – and is renowned for its wildly eclectic lineup and magical forest filled with secrets. With National Express shuttle buses operating from Bristol, this is the perfect way to conclude the summer!

While day-splits and timings will not be announced for months, it has been announced that – after many letters exchanged between festival co-founder Simon Taffe and Bonnie Prince Billy – the cult singer-songwriter will be kicking things off as the Thursday night headliner in a UK festival exclusive.

The other three headliners are Grammy award-winning composer and producer Fever Ray armed with their transcending Kaleidoscopic Electronic (another exclusive), post-punk royalty in the shape of IDLES and alluring shoegaze legends Slowdive.

Elsewhere there are high-profile sets for the returning madcap wordsmith Baxter Dury, ground-breaking and Mercury nominated duo Jockstrap, riot grrl legends Sleater-Kinney, indie-psych superstar Ty Segall (performing a solo acoustic set), End of the Road veterans Yo La Tengo, doom-folk experimenters Lankum and country pop auteur CMAT.

There will also be electronic favourites such as Catalan producer John Talabot and cult London duo Paranoid London; left-field folk with the distinctive Lisa O’Neill and lauded sonic explorer Richard Dawson; hip-hop in the shape of gritty storyteller CASISDEAD; global talent such as Niger’s MDOU MOCTAR and Ghanaian artist Florence Adooni; and plenty more.

If you’re looking for a bit more Bristol, our very own psych-folk-jazz outfit Tara Clerkin Trio will also be in attendance bringing blissful melodies to the Wiltshire festival. With plenty more acts still to be announced in future waves, End of the Road is once more shaping up to be a festival season highlight.
