First installations announced for Bristol Light Festival 2024

Posted on: 02 Nov 2023

The much-loved festival will be illuminating the city once again next February with the first three installations already revealed – including a world premiere light artwork!

Bristol Light Festival runs from Friday 2 until Sunday 11 February 2024.

This year’s centrepiece will be a world-first showing from immersive and mixed reality artists Studio McGuire entitled ‘Ascendance’. The trio of headline installations will be completed by ‘Evanescent’ and ‘The Nectary’, with this year’s festival already shaping up to be the most dazzling addition yet.

For more information, head to the Bristol Light Festival website.

Never before seen anywhere in the world, Ascendance is a creation by powerhouse duo Davy and Kristin McGuire. The pair wowed the festival this year with their pieces Ophelia and Sirens and have previously worked with various luxury brands including Dior.

Their most recent effort, Ascendence, is arguably their most emotive to date. Inspired by loneliness, this interstellar installation features an isolated astronaut floating through the great blankness of the cosmos. This piece will be projected in an iconic Bristol location yet to be revealed.

Award-winning Sydney-based artist Atelier Sisu’s Evanescent takes a look at the idea of transience through the visualisation of bubbles. An immersive environment of light and sound is led by Peruvian sculptor and industrial designer Renzo B Larriviere with architect Zara Pasfield.

A multi-sensory and immersive artwork, The Nectary invites guests into a giant flower, offering a unique perspective on nature. A collaboration between Alison Smith and Dr Chris Hassall, this is an astonishing arts and science crossover that highlights the importance of pollinating insects.

Last year, Bristol Light Festival welcomed 250,000 visitors and it’s sure to prove a hit once again as it welcomes artists from far and wide to showcase their magical light installation in an immersive, family-friendly showcase of talent.

Bristol Light Festival runs throughout the city from Friday 2 until Sunday 11 February 2024, find out more on the festival website.
