There is something for everyone at this vibrant celebration of contemporary South Asian music with classical sitars, nature-inspired fusion and immersive soundscapes as well as talks, workshops and DJs.

New Soundz Festival runs at Arnolfini from Friday 10 until Sunday 12 November 2023.

With top artists such as Soumik Datta and Jason Singh appearing, Bristolians would be foolish not to grab their tickets for this Asian Arts Agency event, with individual headline event tickets and festival weekend passes both available to purchase now. There are also various free events – all you need to do is register!

For more information and to purchase tickets, head to the festival website.

The festival begins on Friday 10 November with the immensely talented Jason Singh, in collaboration with table player Aref Durvesh, multi-instrumentalist Tamar Osborn and keyboard player, Al MacSween, will be kicking off the Arnolfini event.

This exciting performance is sure to prove a wonderful spectacle with a broad spectrum of soundscapes, taking inspiration from a wide variety of genres including classical Indian ragas, jazz, ambient, avant-garde hip hop, dub and the natural world. The show will be followed by a DJ set from Singh himself.

Saturday 11 November will see a full day of activities take place, opening with Roopa Panesar’s celebration of the morn with ragas from her 2022 record, Subha. Her performance will be followed by a short Q&A with the audience, so prepare your questions for the artist about anything from her creative process to her expert sitar playing.

Throughout the day, visitors of all ages will be able to take part in FREE North Indian vocal workshops with Ranjana Ghatak. Two time slots are available and it is recommended that you book in advance.

There will also be free DJ sets taking place between performances as well as the opportunity to experience performances of Indian music via VR headsets. Saturday will culminate with a first chance to see a brand-new immersive work from Soumik Datta entitled Mone Rekho – meaning ‘remember’ in Bengali.

Sunday 12 November is Diwali and veena player and South Indian musician Durga Ramakrishnan will be dropping by Arnolfini for a FREE concert. This closing event is not ticketed and is open for anyone to drop by.

New Soundz Festival runs at Arnolfini from Friday 10 until Sunday 12 November 2023 – grab your tickets HERE.
