Saffron launch grant and mentoring scheme for black artists

Posted on: 16 Oct 2023

Are you a budding Black music creator based in Bristol or the South West? If so, Saffron's artist development programme could be your ticket to elevating your music career to new heights.

Starting this December, Saffron – a music charity supporting women in music via an intersectional approach - is on a mission to empower four talented Black individuals with a host of resources, mentorship, and opportunities, all aimed at fostering independence and resilience in the competitive music industry.

The initiative spans approximately eight months and features a wealth of benefits, including an £800 development fee to support your music creation, recording, and production endeavors. You'll also receive valuable guidance on self-releasing your own track – a pivotal skill for any aspiring artist.

The program goes beyond just financial support. You'll engage in one-on-one mentoring sessions with seasoned industry professionals who will share their insights, experiences, and wisdom to help you thrive in your musical journey. To nurture your talent further, there's a five-day residential artist's retreat to inspire your creativity and monthly peer support sessions to connect with fellow artists.

And that's not all. You'll enjoy a one-year subscription to Saffron Members, opening doors to a community of like-minded musicians and a showcase event opportunity to let your music shine. As if that's not exciting enough, participants in the program will have the chance to upskill at an in-person Saffron course in Bristol, immersing themselves in the heart of a vibrant musical community.

To be eligible, you’ll need to be a musical creative, whether that means you're a music producer, composer, or instrumentalist. The program is open to women, non-binary individuals, trans, intersex, and gender non-conforming applicants. Most importantly, you should identify as Black or have Black heritage. The age requirement is 18 or older, and you should be currently residing in Bristol or anywhere in South West England.

Ready to take your music career to the next level? The application process is straightforward. Download the application pack from Saffron's website to get all the essential details, including project specifics, dates, and application instructions.

Remember, the application deadline is 6 pm on November 3rd, 2022. This could be your opportunity to receive the support and resources you need to turn your musical dreams into reality. Don't miss out on this fantastic chance to shape your future in the world of music!
