Beloved indie outfit The Charlatans return to Bristol in November

Fronted by indie titan Tim Burgess, the Mancunian four piece are one of the UK’s most enduring bands; an inspirational force at the forefront of British music for over 30 years.

 

The Charlatans head to O2 Academy Bristol on Wednesday 29 November 2023.

 

During their three-decade long career, The Charlatans have recorded 13 top 40 studio albums (including three Number Ones) as well as 22 Top 40 singles – four of them reaching the Top 10. More recently, the band have released a career spanning vinyl box set dubbed, A Head Full Of Ideas.

Formed in the West Midlands during the late eighties, despite a slew of successful singles, The Charlatans’ early iteration saw them tread the water as a less well-known band within the ‘Madchester’ scene – overshadowed by the likes of The Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays.

 

However, this all changed by the release of the band’s eponymously titled fourth album in 1995, which saw them debut at number one with a record that incorporated elements of the Britpop zeitgeist, but also more unusual influences such as techno. 

 

Over the years, Salford-born frontman Burgess has become something of an indie icon, releasing several critically acclaimed solo albums and, during the lockdown, held ‘Tim’s Listening Party’ – a social media listening party where artists and the public could share memories and opinions of classic albums.

 

Today, The Charlatans remain one of indie’s most exciting live bands, a finely hones musical powerhouse adored the world over. On this upcoming tour, they will once more delve into their back catalogue of non-stop indie rock jukebox, including instantly recognisable hits ‘The Only One I Know’, ‘Weirdo’, ‘One To Another’, ‘How High’ and many more.

 

In addition to Bristol, The Charlatans will play venues in Newcastle, Glasgow (both gigs sold out), Sheffield, Cardiff (sold out), Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, London (sold out), Wolverhampton and Nottingham (sold out) across November and December.
