Masked Bristol favourite releases hedonistic new single ‘USE IT OR LOSE IT’

A force of the unnatural, a pop star fed through a Nutribullet, the fourth horseman of the queer apocalypse, Lynks has returned this week with a brand-new electro-pop anthem.

In addition to the new track and video, the “masked drag monster” has this week announced their signing to renowned purveyors of indie Heavenly Recordings, a label that counts the likes of Baxter Dury, Confidence Man, Working Men’s Club and fellow Bristol artist Katy J Pearson amongst their roster.

At once euphoric and bleak, ‘USE IT OR LOSE IT’ catches Lynks at their best. Entirely self-produced, the track’s crushed, flamenco-kissed bassline rides a thumping, muscly beat whilst the artist’s trademark distorted vocals sees them tackle issues around sex, ageing and gay representation in a series of immensely quotable couplets.

The 100% unapologetic single’s chorus sees Lynks hand the mic to an anonymous robotic female vocalist who dispassionately calls on the listener to “use it, or lose it”. Speaking about the single, Lynks has said:

“I turned 25 last year which is supposedly the ‘scientifically most attractive year of your life’. I found this out and was like, ‘Damn, this is as good as I’m gonna get?’, I suddenly had this prang of, like, if I’m not fucking 24/7, I’m somehow wasting my youth. Letting it slip away. And then you end up making really bad choices.

“Plus being gay on top of that… The gay world is obsessed with youth. Which isn’t surprising – there just isn’t a blueprint of what growing old as a gay man looks like. Like, any films with a gay man over 40 seems to end with them either trapped in a sad, loveless marriage to a woman or dead.

“So yeah; dry patches, sex parties and twink death. Everything you could want from a big summer banger if you ask me!”

Taking inspiration from electro clash outfit Peaches, the industrial chant of M.I.A., the sardonic drawl of Courtney Barnett and, of course, the theatric drawl of Lady Gaga, Lynks is a unique artist, standing apart from their musical contemporaries.

This has been recognised by the wider music community with support slots with the likes of Metronomy and Frank Carter &The Rattlesnakes and praise from legends including Elton John. There’s nothing quite like Lynks, an electro-punk star wrapped in a gimp mask, creating queer utopias and danceable beats everywhere they go.
