Bad Manners return to The Fleece early next month

Posted on: 14 Jul 2023

Tickets are running low for the annual return of the 80s ska revivalists to The Fleece with support, as always, coming from the iconic Max Splodge.

Bad Manners will play Bristol’s The Fleece on Sunday 6 August 2023.

Long-time friends of the legendary venue, Bad Manners, are seen as one of the key bands - along with the likes of The Specials and Madness – as one of the key components of the 80s ska/new wave scene and are still going strong to this day!

Composed of vocalist Buster Bloodvessel (real name Douglas Trendle), guitarist Louis Cook, bassist David Farren, keyboardist Martin Stewart, drummer Brian Tuitti, trumpeter Gus Herman and saxophonist Chris Kane, Bad Manners emerged from the burgeoning ska revival scene of the late 70s.

Thanks to Buster’s iconic bald head, large frame and mad onstage antics, the band quickly became a novelty favourite and earned a spot on the 2 Tone Records package tours, featuring in the cult US live documentary, Dance Craze.

The success of the 2 Tone scene propelled Bad Manners into the mainstream with several UK hits including ‘Ne-Ne Na-Na Na-Na Nu-Nu’, ‘Lip Up Fatty, ‘Special Brew’ and ‘Can Can’ until the scene began to peter out in the mid-80s and the band temporarily retired.

However, they reformed in 1989 with their album Return of the Ugly proving a commercial failure despite the continued popularity of their raucous live shows. The mid-90s third-wave ska revival followed and, since then, Bad Manners have continued to pull massive crowds all over the country and beyond.

As always, Bad Manners have a lengthy run of UK dates planned between now and the end of the year with shows planned for Leeds, Exeter, Southampton, Newport, Gloucester, Leicester, Cambridge, Sheffield, Manchester, Newcastle, Reading, London, Bristol, Brighton, Swansea, Liverpool, Nottingham, Norwich, Edinburgh and more.
