Directed by beloved Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, this smash hit musical inspired on the iconic film is set to run at The Bristol Hippodrome for six dates this week.

 

Strictly Ballroom: The Musical runs at The Bristol Hippodrome from Monday 10 to Saturday 15 July 2023.

 

Revel Horwood’s take on the Baz Luhrmann classic is in Bristol as part of an extensive tour of the UK and Ireland that features a star-studded cast including fellow Strictly favourite and musical theatre staple Kevin Clifton as well as Coronation Street and Dancing On Ice’s Faye Brookes.

Strictly Ballroom: The Musical follows rebellious young ballroom dancer Scott Hasting (played by Kevin Clifton) whose radical style of dance causes him to fall out of favour with the Australian Dancing Federation. 

 

As a result of this, Scott is forced to join forces with amateur Fran (Faye Brookes) as his dance partner and, together, they must battle against tradition and discover that, to win, sometimes your steps don’t need to be ‘strictly ballroom’.

 

With a score filled with classics such as ‘Love is in the Air’, ‘Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps’, ‘Time After Time’, and new music from internationally renowned artists including Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect, this feel-good ballroom sensation is sure to be unforgettable, toe tapping evening under the glitter ball.

 

Speaking about the production earlier this year, director and co-choreographer Craig Revel Horwood said: “Audiences are in for a night of laughter and comedy, with an insight into the ballroom world. It’s a glimpse backstage, which is very different to the smiles when dancers are performing. 

 

“Most people see this happy, smiley world of people dancing together but when they come offstage, they maybe have family issues to deal with or issues with each other. Strictly Ballroom lifts the curtain on all that whilst also being really funny and having such a strong central love story, plus there’s lots of glitz and glamour and beautiful costumes.”
