A 365Bristol live music guide to Summer 2023 at Thekla

Bristol’s famous boat has, once again, a busy schedule of live shows from a diverse range of artists planned between now and the end of September.

 

With sets from a Golden Globe-nominated actor, a renowned indie frontman, a couple of goth metal favourites and an indie staple returning after a few years in the wilderness, read on for a definitive rundown of what to expect in the coming months…

 

July

 

Sunday 2 July sees Thekla’s summer spark into life with a show from Old Time Sailors (see below): a flash mob musical show, this is sure to be an unforgettable experience as audiences are transported back in time to the 19th century.

 

Monday 3 sees Illinois’ Born of Osiris bring their progressive metalcore to the boat while, on Tuesday 4, soul sensation Lee Fields (known as Little JB for his resemblance to James Brown) will take to the stage.

 

On Sunday 8, fans of 60s rock band Love will be treated to a dose of psychedelia with Johnny Echols. On Friday 14 it’ll be time for a set from former Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine frontman and acclaimed solo artist Jim Bob.

 

On Saturday 22 it’ll be time to celebrate the life of Ki Longfellow, one of the founders of The Old Profanity Showboat, now Thekla, with a new plaque and an evening of entertainment. The month of July with then culminate on Friday 28 July with a show from American reggae artist Mike Love.

August

 

August will kick off with a visit from renowned Liverpool synth-pop outfit China Crisis https://bit.ly/ChinCrisThek  on Friday 4 followed by South Korean idol rock group W24 on Monday 21.

 

Viral meme sensations and comedy rap duo Joey Valance & Brae (see below) will be at Thekla on Tuesday 22 before Florida band Orbituary bring their influential brand of death metal to the boat on Friday 25.

September

 

Georgia-raised country superstar Megan Moroney https://bit.ly/MGNMRNY will take over Thekla on Friday 1 September, with Molotov Jukebox bringing an intriguing blend of old school ska and folk fiddle to Bristol on Saturday 2. Sunday 3 sees fast-rising trio Wild Rivers bring a dose of indie to proceedings.

 

On Monday 4, music fans will be treated to heartland rock & roll with Canadian singer-songwriter, Ariel Posen. Wednesday 6 sees alternative favourites Demob Happy’s The Divine Machines tour drop by Thekla. American post-punkers Geese will then return to the venue on Thursday 7 in what is sure to prove a raucous show.

 

Friday 8 sees platinum-selling star BRELAND play aboard the famous boat before a show from electro-pop singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin on Friday 15. Then, on Saturday 16, alt-pop Mancunians Larkins will drop by Bristol. It will then be time for a rock n roll set from Golden Globe-nominated actor and musician Damian Lewis (see below) on Sunday 17.

49th & Main will bring their feel-good indie pop to the venue on Tuesday 19, followed by blues-rock group Robert Jon & The Wreck on Thursday 21. Melodic death metal outfit Nekrogoblin will then bring their Goblin Mode tour to Bristol on Friday 22.

 

On Saturday 23, the popular tribute act festival Forever Nu! will return to Thekla and BEKA will present her captivating pop show on Monday 25. South London multi-instrumentalist Puma Blue will appear at the venue on Wednesday 27.

 

The final two shows of September are sure to prove pretty popular with ‘Goodbye Mr A’ stars The Hoosiers dropping by on Thursday 28 and Tom Clarke playing electro-acoustic versions of classic tracks from his band The Enemy on Saturday 20 September.
