In addition to a lengthy run of live dates, the iconic five-piece have announced their long-awaited fifth album, everything is alive, and released a brand new single, ‘kisses’.

Slowdive will play Bristol’s SWX on Wednesday 1 November 2023.

Appearing in Bristol for the first time since a 2017 show at The Fleece, Slowdive will drop by SWX to celebrate their eagerly anticipated fifth album, everything is alive (set for release in September) – their first in six years. Tickets for the Bristol show go on sale this Friday 23 June.

Slowdive formed back in 1989 by long-term school friends Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell with the name coming from a dream Halstead had. The band started as a highly derivative My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth clone, however, Slowdive truly exploded with the addition of guitarist Christian Savill and drummer Simon Scott.

Since then, the band have defined the shoegaze genre with a penchant for dreamlike harmonies and psychedelicized layers of guitar. However, Shoegaze’s far-reaching inspirations and penchant for folk-rock, dub and ambient techno puts them on their own pedestal.

Albums such as 1993’s Souvlaki - a dream-pop masterpiece with contributions from ambient legend Brian Eno - and 1995’s Pygmalion - a post-rock triumph that was originally written off by critics before the band quietly split up – truly cemented Slowdive’s place in the alternative music hall of fame.

The band returned in 2017 with a critically acclaimed self-titled record, their first in 22 years, that proved Goswell and co are still at the top of their game. Slowdive will return later this year with everything is alive, a record described as containing “the duality of a familiar internal language mixed with the exaltation of new beginnings”.

This announcement is coupled with the release of the new single ‘kisses’ and plans for a European tour with October dates scheduled in Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, London, Belfast and Dublin. See tour information below…
