Cricket fans rejoice as, this July, Gloucestershire Cricket will for the first time be hosting the Women’s Ashes as England and Australia lock horns yet again.

The first Ashes ODI between England Women and Australia Women will take place at Seat Unique Stadium on Wednesday 12 July 2023.

It’s sure to prove an exciting occasion in July when Heather Knight’s England Women’s side looks to build on their formidable form in Bristol when they go head-to-head with their old rivals, the touring Australians, in a one-day international on home soil.

England Women ended the 2022 season unbeaten in Bristol and will be hoping their home-from-home at Nevil Road will bring a vital win in the hunt to regain The Ashes from Australia.

The Women’s Ashes is one of the premium trophies in women’s international cricket. Taking place between England and Australia, it is a follow on from the legendary competition in men’s cricket and, until 2013, it was similarly decided on Test matches.

However, since then, the tournament has been pronounced through a points system, incorporating One-Day internationals and Twenty20 matches in addition to Tests – 2023 will mark the 87th edition of The Women’s Ashes.

Located in Bishopston, the Seat Unique Stadium County Cricket Club (previously Bristol County Ground) was opened in 1889 and has been the home of Gloucestershire Cricket Club ever since. Following redevelopment between 2009 and 2016, the ground now has a capacity of 17,500 and was even one of the host venues of the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

The first Ashes ODI between England Women and Australia Women will be played in Bristol on Wednesday 12 July 2023.
