What’s On: May at O2 Academy Bristol

As one of the prime destinations for the biggest acts from the UK and abroad, O2 Academy is one of the city's most popular venues for students and Bristolians alike.

 

Dancehall megastars, 2010s pop icons, Australian punk rockers and massive festivals are all appearing at one of Bristol's biggest music venues next month with an array of music events between Saturday 6 and Saturday 27 May 2023.

 

Aston Merrygold | Saturday 6 May

 

The first May show is a pretty big one with ex-JLS star Aston Merrygold bringing his ‘4 AM Tour’ to Bristol. Fans can expect solo favourites ‘Get Stupid’, ‘Trudy’, ‘I Ain’t Missing You’ and ‘How Many Times’ as well as the occasional throwback to the heyday of JLS – the biggest UK pop group of their era!

Karpe and Quickstyle presents: Omar Sheriff | Sunday 7 May
 

Norwegian rap duo Karpe consists of audiovisual artists Chirag Rashmikant Patel and Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid. They are the biggest act in Norway – producing hit after hit and receiving numerous awards. Last year, they released their latest project Omar Sheriff - a universe of tributes and nods to their respective Indian and Egyptian backgrounds.

Popcaan – Great Is He Tour | Wednesday 10 May

 

Next up is one of Dancehall’s most successful artists, Popcaan. The MOBO award-winning artist is heading around the UK to perform his latest album Great is He. A worldwide music icon, he has collaborated with some of the world’s biggest artists from Drake and Jamie xx to Pusha T and Giggs. Now he’s coming to Bristol!

Lucy Spraggan | Thursday 11 May

 

It’s been more than a decade since Lucy Spraggan shot to fame thanks to the X Factor in 2012, and she’s back on the road with new music and her seventh studio album. She was the first X Factor contestant to score a Top 40 single and has received rave reviews ever since for her loveable character and vibrant brand of indie pop.

Martin Kemp: The Ultimate Back to the 80’s DJ Set | Saturday 13 May

 

Best known as the bassist of legendary 80s pop group Spandau Ballet, Martin Kemp is also a solo artist and has appeared in Eastenders and a plethora of other films and television shows. Now, Martin is adding another string to his bass as he takes to the decks to spin the biggest and best hits from the 80s.

Roy Ayers – The Farewell Tour | Wednesday 17 May

 

A certified jazz-soul legend, band leader and skilled vibraphonist, Roy Ayers is famed the world over for his Southern Californian 1976 anthem, ‘Everybody Loves the Sunshine’, which earned him a place amongst the musical greats. Now, in the twilight of his career, Ayers, 80, is coming to Bristol for one last time as part of his ‘Farewell Tour’.

Pusha T | Friday 19 May

 

First rising to prominence as one half of the hip-hop duo Clipse, Pusha T is now a widely celebrated name in rap thanks to his intricate wordplay and distinct sense of personality. Over the years he has worked with the likes of Kanye West, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert, Pharrell Williams and Gorillaz. Guess what, Pusha T’s coming to Bristol in May!

Dodgy: Free Peace Sweet in full | Saturday 20 May

 

If you’re looking for a healthy dose of Britpop in May, then mark this show in your diaries. London-based indie quartet Dodgy are coming to Bristol in May to perform their smash hit album Free Peace Sweet (which spawned fan favourite single ‘Good Enough’) in full. Don’t miss this chance to see one of 90s indie’s biggest acts.

Steel Panther: On The Prowl World Tour | Sunday 21 May

 

Next up is a special show from California rock legends Steel Panther who are returning to the UK to support their sixth album, On the Prowl. Known for their comedic, glam metal style, this is sure to prove a raucous show full of pastiche and exaggerated glam style.

The Chats | Tuesday 23 May

 

Cult Australian three-piece The Chats are a once-in-a-generation rock n roll band who have offered a fresh perspective to the punk scene with a riotous live presence and witty lyricism. Returning with their sophomore record, Get F**ked, The Chats guarantee a fun show with plenty of mosh pits to get stuck into.

 

This event is sold out, however, it is worth keeping an eye on the event page for resale tickets.

The Band CAMINO | Wednesday 24 May

 

Next up is Memphis outfit The Band CAMINO who are bringing their charismatic blend of uplifting indie rock and dreamy electro-pop. Best known for massive tunes ‘2 / 14’, ‘See Through’ and ‘My Thoughts On You’, this is sure to be a masterful display of rock prowess.

Dot To Dot Festival 2023 | Saturday 27 May

 

The final event taking place at O2 Academy Bristol in May is Dot To Dot 2023. The ever-popular festival takes place annually across the city’s top venues with this year’s talent-filled lineup featuring the likes of Yard Act, Alvvays, The Murder Capital, Grove, Kofi Stone, Opus Kink, Heavy Lungs, Benefits and many more.
