Gervais first garnered mainstream attention with his hugely successful television series The Office and subsequence sitcom, both of which were co-created with friend, collaborator, and Bristolian Stephen Merchant. Gervais also starred in both shows, playing David Brent in The Office and Andy Millman in Extras.
It was the former of the two programmes that truly wrote Gervais’ name in the history books of UK telly with the sitcom’s ground-breaking mockumentary style and uncomfortably recognisable characters inspiring legendary UK works like People Just Do Nothing, This Country and Stath Lets Flats as well as providing the basis for the hugely popular US Office.
Gervais has also starred in a number of leading Hollywood roles, written the best-selling Flanimals children’s books, performed numerous sell-out comedy shows and, along with Merchant and Karl Pilkington, created the immensely popular podcast The Ricky Gervais Show.
The comic can most recently be seen in his 2022 Netflix special ‘SuperNature’ as well as three series of the critically acclaimed dark comedy ‘After Life’ which he created, directed and executive produced.
Throughout his decorated career, Gervais has won a plethora of awards, including seven BAFTA Awards, five British Comedy Awards, two Emmys, three Golden Globes and the 2006 Rose d’Or.
Ricky Gervais will perform a double header of his show ‘Armageddon’ at Bristol Beacon on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 December 2023. Tickets for these shows will go on sale Friday 31 March – hurry because these tickets will not last!
