Back with their latest record UK Grim, the groundbreaking Nottingham duo are heading out on tour to present an angry yet artful set of their most dancefloor-friendly material to date.

Sleaford Mods will play O2 Academy Bristol on Thursday 30 November.

Set for release this Friday, Sleaford Mod’s highly anticipated eighth album UK Grim possesses an instinctual energy that moves bodies and minds to lively beats, portraying an electronic vision that engages with the ‘grim’ times we are living in.

Jason Williamson formed Sleaford Mods in 2006 with the duo’s early incarnation featuring the vocalist performing no-nonsense, aggressive spoken word poetry over pre-recorded beats.

In Nottingham three years later, Williamson enlisted the help of veteran musician and DJ Andrew Fearn. Together, they quickly became a punk and hip-hop fusion force to be reckoned with their blend of minimalist, lo-fi drum machine beats and blustering wordplay winning over audiences up and down the country.

For years now, Sleaford Mods have provided the bleak soundtrack to austerity-era Britain. Jason’s scathing and often humorous rants about politics, injustice and pop culture are propelled forward by Andrew’s radical approach to production.

The two-piece perforated the public consciousness with the 2014 album, Divide and Exit. The record quickly garnered critical acclaim for its bold urgency and its follow-up – 2015’s Key Markets – was accompanied by collaborations with Prodigy and Leftfield.

However, it was English Tapas two years later that made Sleaford Mods a mainstream success, reaching the Top 20 in the UK and leading to several high-profile festival slots. On more recent albums, such as Spare Ribs, the duo have contrasted Jason’s usual grim lyrics with a more colourful, melodic approach.

Now Sleaford Mods are back with a new effort, UK Grim, which explores the despair, anger and alienation that comes with war, rising energy costs, inflation and a divided country.

Speaking about the record, Jason Williamson has said: “The rot’s set in. So much it’s trampled into our consciousness to the point where we have become as one with the Conservative Party. We’re all Conservative MPs now… servants of this really bleak sort of Aldi nationalism.”

Sleaford Mods will drop by O2 Academy Bristol on Thursday 30 November as part of a lengthy tour of the UK and Ireland. Secure your ticket HERE.
