In a massive coup for the Bristol venue, Underworld - one of the biggest acts of the 1990s - are coming to Marble Factory later this month.

Underworld will play Bristol’s Marble Factory on Sunday 19 March.

One of the most crucial projects of the 1990s with a progressive blend of old and new, an approach that has seen them maintain an astonishing level of influence over leftfield electronic music to this day.

The trio's original two-man front line, vocalist Karl Hyde and keyboardist Rick Smith have been recording together since the early 80s new wave explosion. After the pair released two fairly obscure rock albums, they hit it big the following decade with new recruit Darren Emerson.

Traditional song forms were scrapped in favour of Hyde's heavily treated vocals, chilling whispering, and surreal wordplay, stretched out over the breakbeat trance ripped out by Emerson and company while Hyde's cascade of guitar-shard effects provided an unusual foil to the stark music.

The first album by the trio, Dubnobasswithmyheadman (1993), appeared to a flurry of critical acclaim and reached number 12 in their native U.K. Second Toughest in the Infants (1996), the group's following LP, broke the Top Ten thanks in part to a boost they received from appearing on the soundtrack of the seminal Trainspotting.

Although that has remained the group's commercial peak, Underworld have continued to record forward-thinking and acclaimed albums as well as soundtrack material and numerous solo pursuits. Their ninth album Barbara Barbara, We Face a Shining Future (2016) earned Underworld their first Grammy nomination, after which they collaborated with Iggy Pop for Teatime Dub Encounters (2018).

Underworld are a real one-off - at home headlining the world’s biggest festivals and events, playing underground techno clubs and warehouses, sound-tracking theatre productions or taking over art galleries, disused shoe shops and Japanese department stores. This is sure to be a special one!

Underworld will play Bristol’s Marble Factory on Sunday 19 March. Tickets are on sale from 10 AM and can be purchased HERE.
