Tickets on sale tomorrow for Jesus Christ Superstar’s Bristol run

It was announced last month that the award-winning international phenomenon musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, is coming to Bristol in 2024 as part of a UK-wide tour. 

 

Jesus Christ Superstar will run at Bristol Hippodrome from Monday 11 to Saturday 16 March 2024.

 

Off the back of lauded and sold-out runs in London’s West End and a lengthy tour of the US, this reconceptualised production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Olivier Award-winning musical will be touring the UK and Ireland throughout 2023 and 2024.

Originally released as a concept album in 1970 before opening on Broadway the following year, Jesus Christ Superstar has since become a global phenomenon – wowing audiences the world over. This original London production ran for more than 8 years, becoming one of the longest-running musicals in the history of Broadway. 

 

Since then, it has been reproduced numerous times worldwide with offshoots including an ITV competition show that led to the casting of Ben Forster as Jesus and a 45-year anniversary show at Regents Park.

 

Jesus Christ Superstar depicts the final weeks of Jesus Christ’s life through the gaze of the treacherous apostle Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the celebrated score features songs including ‘I Don’t Know How to Love Him’, ‘Gethsemane’ and ‘Superstar’.

This legendary score comes from Emmy, GRAMMY, Oscar and Tony award winners Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. This production has grown from the Regent’s Park production, it is directed by Timothy Sheader with choreography from Drew McOnie.

 

Over the years, the production has won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and the 2016 Evening Standard Award for Best Musical. It was shown at the Barbican in 2019 before returning to Regent’s Park as a summer concert in 2020.

 

As part of the upcoming tour of the UK and Ireland, Jesus Christ Superstar will run at theatres in Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham, Ipswich, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leicester, Bristol, Southampton, Norwich, Birmingham, Dublin, Sunderland, Sheffield, and Blackpool among others.
