Principal cast announced for Shrek The Musical’s Bristol run

This new production of the award-winning West End hit will feature a host of family favourite characters and memorable songs, as Shrek and co embark on a big, bright, musical adventure.

 

Shrek The Musical will run at The Bristol Hippodrome from Tuesday 22 August until Sunday 27 August 2023.

 

Matilda The Musical and The Lion King’s Antony Lawrence is Shrek, Strictly Come Dancing’s Joanne Clifton is Fiona, Olivier Award-nominee James Gillan and Dream Girls’ Brandon Lee Sears is Donkey in this retelling of the classic DreamWorks movie.

Based on the Oscar-winning animated classic, producers Mark Goucher, Gavin Kalin and Matthew Gale present their new production of the smash-hit West End show, Shrek the Musical.

 

Join one of the big screen’s most unlikely heroes and his noble steed Donkey on their incredible quest through the world of fairytales, featuring the beloved Princess Fiona, villainous Lord Farquaad and many other magical characters.

 

With the first film released over 20 years ago, what better time to take the stage production to theatres all over the UK? Shrek the Musical was first performed on Broadway in 2008 and has been awarded eight Tony and four Olivier nominations.

The weird and wonderful world of the ogre and his allies will now be reimagined by a new creative team for this lengthy tour, accompanied by an iconic score and a gripping story from David Lindsay-Ahaire and Jeanine Tesori’s original musical.

 

Hanging up his Lord Farquaad cloak, which he adorned in the previous UK tour, and taking up the role of co-director is Sam Holmes. Anthony Lawrence (Shrek) recently played Scar in The Lion King as well as taking roles in Mary Poppins, Matilda the Musical and We Will Rock You.

 

Best known for her time on Strictly Come Dancing, Joanne Clifton (Fiona) joined the iconic TV show as a professional dancer. In this time, she won the Christmas Special with McFly’s Harry Judd and the glitterball trophy in 2016 with her partner Ore Oduba.  

 

 

Brandon Lee Sears (Donkey) wowed audiences throughout the UK as Jimmy Early in Dreamgirls. His previous theatre credits include the original West End productions of Be More Chill, Come From Away, Heathers, Motown the Musical, and On the Town.

 

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film, the Broadway and West End smash hit Shrek the Musical is an entertaining and hilarious riotous comedy with a cast of vibrant fantasy characters and a ‘shrektacular’ score.
