Posted on: 02 Feb 2023

Setting out on their first tour in years, the seminal rock band will play a slew of shows up and down the country – including a special appearance just outside Bristol.

The Who will play Badminton Estate on Sunday 16 July 2023.

Backed by a full orchestra and supported by UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, the iconic Roger Daltrey fronted group’s first UK tour in years is sure to prove a sell-out sensation when tickets go on sale this Friday, 3 February.

Formed in London in 1964, with the core line-up of lead vocalist Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon, are considered to be one of the most influential British rock bands of all time, selling well over 100 million records worldwide.

Fast forward almost 60 years and Townshend and Daltrey will be performing music from throughout the band’s stellar career, including special sections devoted to classic records Tommy (1969) and Quadrophenia (1973) as well as songs from their most recent album, WHO – released in 2019.

The upcoming run of gigs follows a highly acclaimed tour of the US last year, where The Who were joined onstage by some of America’s finest orchestras.

The UK summer tour will feature The Who’s full live band - guitarist Simon Townshend, keyboardists Loren Gold and Emily Marshall, bassist Jon Button, drummer Zak Starkey and backing vocalist Billy Nicholls – with orchestra conductor Keith Levenson, lead violinist Katie Jacoby and lead cellist Audrey Snyder.

Speaking about the tour and the use of an orchestra, Roger Daltrey has said:

“Having not toured the UK for six years, it’s great that at this time of our careers, we have the chance to go to places that are not on the usual touring map: Edinburgh Castle and Derby, as well as the other cities across the country that we haven’t been to for decades, will make this very special for me. This opportunity will give our UK Who fans the chance to hear our current show, which, with the addition of an orchestra, takes our music to new heights.”

As well as Badmington, The Who will play venues in Hull, Edinburgh, London, Derby, Durham, St Helens and Hove. For more information about the tour, visit the band’s website.
