Bristol duo DRAG find love at prom in new video for ‘Let’s Make Out’

Posted on: 04 Nov 2022

The Bristol-based synth-pop band first released ‘Let’s Make Out’ back in September but have today released the accompanying video that sees them team up with local director Jack Hackett.

Filmed at much-loved Bristol venue The Fleece and featuring a raft of extras, the video is a shimmering dream sequence depicting an 80s prom, making heavy use of DRAG’s signature red and blue aesthetic.

Watch the brand-new video for ‘Let’s Make Out’ below…

First forming in 2018, DRAG is a collaboration between Geordie born, Bristol based anti-artist Amy Crozier and Exmoor based songwriter and producer Leo Braukmann-Pugsley, better known under their stage monikers, RED and BLUE.

The pair have worked together for several years on a number of different projects from art pieces to events but DRAG has always taken the front seat. In their own words, the project is “fifty percent music and fifty percent aesthetics”, with the two combining to create a unique and arresting audio-visual experience.

Their already well-developed noise blends hooky synth-pop with contemporary themes and production, conjuring up 80s nostalgia whilst firmly placing themselves in a 21st century context. DRAG have supported the likes of Walt Disco on the Bristol leg of their UK tour and have been championed heavily by BBC Introducing in the Southwest.

The single, ‘Let’s Make Out’ was first released earlier this year, it is a tender, dreamy love song that mixes elements of dream wave production with classically pop songwriting.

In the accompanying music video that is released today, BLUE searches for RED at the prom, as the night goes on, they meet on the dancefloor and eventually make out. This classic tale is embellished with all the classic 80s prom tropes with balloons, fairy lights, a band, a photobooth and punch all featuring.

Keen Bristol music fans will also notice appearances as extras from members of Bible Club and Belishas as well as local icons Hebe and Yuk taking on the roles of BLUE and RED doppelgangers.

Jack Hackett's video is a beautifully imagined and nostalgic creation that perfectly compliments the duo's approach to their craft; the film's glossy quality matches BLUE's sleazy, almost crooning vocals and the set and atmosphere are truly reminiscent of an 80s prom scene, think Footloose or maybe even Napolean Dynamite.

The video for DRAG’s ‘Let’s Make Out’ (directed by Jack Hackett) is out now and available to watch on YouTube.

If you want to see DRAG live in the flesh (and we recommend that you do as soon as possible), catch them at Bristol's Louisiana on Sunday 20 November supporting Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine.
