With the follow-up to 2018’s hit record Cocoa Butter due for release next year, the Scottish trio have announced a UK and Ireland tour that will kick off at Bristol’s SWX.

Young Fathers will play at SWX on Sunday 26 February 2023.

With the genre-bending alternative rap group’s sixth album, Heavy Heavy, set for Friday 3 February, fans will be clamouring to see Young Fathers return to the live circuit – an arena they have consistently excelled over the last 10 years.

Forming in Edinburgh in 2008, close friends Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole and Graham Hastings began performing in nightclubs and small live venues when they were still in their teens.

Following a trickle of singles and Eps in the early 2010s, the trio truly burst onto the scene with full-length effort Dead in 2014. The album’s inventive yet gritty blend of hip-hop and leftfield pop saw them beat a number of better-known artists to that year’s Mercury Prize.

Since then, Young Fathers have gone from strength to strength, becoming widely regarded as one of the UK’s most innovative acts. In 2016, they featured on Massive Attack’s EP, Ritual Spirit, and had several songs on the soundtrack for T2 Trainspotting – the Trainspotting sequel.

Their last album, Cocoa Sugar, was released in 2018 and was once more met with widespread critical acclaim thanks to a more accessible – yet still incredibly broad – approach with a clear use of narrative and symbolism throughout.

Earlier this year, Young Fathers released ‘Geronimo’, their first new song in 4 years. This was followed up last week with the announcement of the upcoming album, Heavy Heavy, along with a second single, ‘I Saw’, and an accompanying music video (see below).

To celebrate the album’s February release, the group are heading out on tours of both Europe and the UK and Ireland, with the latter featuring trips to Bristol, Dublin, Glasgow (2 dates), Newcastle, Manchester, and London. Visit the Young Fathers website for more information.

The group will play the newly reopened SWX on Sunday 26 February 2023, tickets for the show are running low so buy them now, HERE.
