Smash-hit musical Annie is set for a Bristol stint in 2023

One of the world's favourite family musicals thanks to the 1982 Hollywood adaptation, a brand-new staging of Annie is set to appear in Bristol for one week only in November 2023.

Annie will run at Bristol Hippodrome from Monday 20 until Saturday 25 November 2023.

This childhood favourite, set in New York during The Great Depression of the 1930s, will feature all the classic songs, including 'It’s The Hard-Knock Life', and a stunning cast led by funny man and former drag queen Paul O'Grady in the role of the tyrannical orphanage boss Miss Hannigan.

UPDATE: PAUL O'GRADY PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY ON 28 MARCH 2023 AND OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. UPDATES IN REGARD TO THIS SHOW WILL BE RELEASED AT A LATER DATE

The musical follows the brave young Annie who is forced, along with several other young girls, to live a life of misery under the evil eye of Miss Hannigan - the orphanage's cruel keeper - who forces the girls to carry out gruelling work for her.

However, Annie's luck soon changes when - after a failed escape attempt sees her punished particularly badly - she is taken pity upon by the assistant of famous billionaire Oliver Warbucks and is chosen to spend a fairytale Christmas in his mansion.

Despite a rocky start, the unlikely companions hit it off, however, spiteful Miss Hannigan and her con artist brother, Rooster, have other ideas and set about hatching a plan to scupper Annie and Warbucks' attempts to find the young girl's true family.

The Tony Award-winning musical is perhaps most well-known for the 1982 film adaptation starring Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan, Albert Finney as Mr Warbucks and Tim Curry as Rooster as well as the 1999 remake featuring the likes of Kathy Bates and Alan Cumming.

Annie The Musical is based on Harold Gray's popular comic strip Little Orphan Annie from the 1920s. Lyricist-director Martin Charnin discovered the story by chance when he bought the comic as a present for a friend and decided to read it. He fell in love with the story and set about securing the rights, the result being the musical we know and love today.

The brand-new adaptation has already won the hearts of the West End, featuring all the unforgettable songs from the original, including 'It’s The Hard-Knock Life', 'Easy Street', 'I Don’t Need Anything But You' and 'Tomorrow', you can bet your bottom dollar that you’ll love it!

Annie will appear at Bristol Hippodrome for one week only (Monday 20 until Saturday 25 November) next year. Tickets are available now and can be found HERE.
