Based on the legendary Oscar-winning Dreamworks film, producers Mark Goucher, Gavin Kalin and Matthew Gale present their new production of the smash-hit West End show, Shrek the Musical.
Join one of the big screen’s most unlikely heroes and his noble steed Donkey on their incredible (and often mad) quest, featuring the beloved Princess Fiona, villainous Lord Farquaad (pictured below) and many more magical characters.
With the first film celebrating its 20th-anniversary last year, what better time to take the stage production back around the country. Shrek the Musical was first performed on Broadway in 2008 and has since received 8 Tony and 4 Olivier nominations with one Tony award for Best Costume Design.
The weird and wonderful world of the ogre and his allies will now be reimagined by a new creative team for this lengthy tour, accompanied by an iconic score and a gripping story from David Lindsay-Ahaire and Jeanine Tesori’s original musical.
Hanging up his Lord Farquaad cloak, which he adorned in the previous UK tour, and taking up the role of co-director is Sam Holmes. He's joined by acclaimed director and choreographer Nick Winston (Bonnie and Clyde and Beauty and the Beast).
On the production, Goucher has said: “I am delighted to be bringing this re-imagined production of the beloved Shrek the Musical to audiences across the UK and Ireland.
“The story of Shrek is known and loved across the world and this show is an incredibly joyous, fun and uplifting evening at the theatre that will be enjoyed by all ages.”
As well as Bristol Hippodrome, Shrek the Musical’s UK and Ireland tour will visit theatres in Plymouth, Manchester, Southend, Carlisle, Aberdeen, Oxford, London, Dartford, Northampton, Bradford, Woking, Eastbourne, Cardiff, York and Blackpool.
Shrek the Musical will be at Bristol Hippodrome between Monday 22 and Saturday 27 August 2023 - tickets can be found here.
