Simon Amstell is bringing his new stand-up show to the Redgrave Theatre

Posted on: 27 Apr 2022

In his first stand-up tour since the release of the internationally acclaimed film ‘Benjamin’ and Netflix special ‘Set Free’, Amstell takes fans on a beautiful exploration of all the important things in life.

Renowned comedian, television presenter and director Simon Amstell is presenting his brand-new show, ‘Spirit Hole’ to audiences up and down the country throughout May and June.

Known as the ex-presenter of ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ and creator of a whole host of popular comedy projects, Amstell will take the Redgrave stage for a matinee and evening performance on 28 May 2022.

Tickets for the show can be found on the Redgrave Theatre website.

Born and raised in London, Amstell started performing stand-up when he was in his teens, becoming the youngest finalist to appear in the BBC New Comedy Awards.

His first television appearance, on Channel 4 gameshow ‘GameMaster’, came in 1993 and Amstell quickly became a regular face on British television in the years that followed. A brief stint as a presenter on Nickelodeon in 1998 was cut short after (according to the comedian) he was sacked for “making pop stars uncomfortable”.

He was soon presenting several cult comedy television shows, developing a recognisably ironic and surrealist style of comedy along the way. The most notable of these shows were ‘Popworld’ and ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ (below), the former of which, in particular, established Amstell’s status as one of the country’s favourite comics.

In addition to his wildly popular stand-up shows, the 42-year-old has written and directed various successful television series and films.

Notable works include ‘Grandma’s House’ (co-written by and starring Amstell) and critically acclaimed 2017 mockumentary ‘Carnage’ – set in 2067, the television film looks back at today’s meat-eating habits.

Next month, Amstell begins a UK tour of new show ‘Spirit Hole’. A blissful, spiritual, and sensational exploration of love, sex, shame, and everything in between with plenty of soul searching and laughter along the way.

As well as Bristol, Simon Amstell’s tour will take him to venues in Coventry, Richmond, Perth, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, St Albans, Winchester, Hay-on-Wye, Exeter, Tring and London. Head to the comedian’s website for more information.

Amstell will play both a matinee and an evening show at the Redgrave Theatre on 28 May, tickets are £26 and can be found here.
