Strange Brew to reopen in May with a busy lineup of live shows, DJ sets and more

The team behind BS1 venue Strange Brew have confirmed an events programme for their long-awaited post-lockdown reopening, set to host a diverse range of seated live and club events throughout May and June.

Kicking off with a night hosted by renowned party-starters Worm Disco Club on Wednesday 19 May, Strange Brew's latest musical offering features an array of familiar Bristol faces, spanning a mixed bag of genres including electronic, afrobeat, jazz and more.

Tickets for the full list of events will be available from Monday 3 May via Headfirst.

Opened in September 2020 after well over 18 months of planning and fundraising, Strange Brew was heralded among the Bristol music scene last year as a much-needed addition to the city's dwindling selection of small venues.

Owners and operators DIRTYTALK aimed to establish Strange Brew as a hub for underground music in Bristol, combining its performance space with a listening bar, record store and cafe.

Just two months after their opening, however, the team were forced to launch a second crowdfunding campaign to secure the venue's future, feeling the impact of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

Fans and supporters successfully raised £15,000 to cover ongoing rent and operating costs while the venue was unable to reopen, and Strange Brew is finally approaching its first-ever full events schedule, more than six months after opening its doors.

Kicking off on Wednesday 19 May, Strange Brew will be hosting a series of live performances and DJ sets, hosted by some of Bristol's most forward-thinking labels and promoters.

Worm Disco Club will be following up their opening night takeover with a rescheduled live performance from afrobeat icon Dele Sosimi on Sunday 23 May, before Bruce brings his Get Loose party to Fairfax Street a week later and Livity Sound welcome Transcendence Orchestra in June.

Attendees can expect top-notch track selections every weekend as Strange Brew's Friday & Saturday DJ nights return, hosted by the likes of Idle Hands, the Mix Nights project and Dar Disku.

Tickets for Strange Brew's full May/June programme will be bookable as group tables, and will be available from Monday 3 May via Headfirst.

For more information, to browse the venue's full schedule or to follow updates in the coming weeks, head to the Strange Brew website or find the team on Twitter and Facebook.
