Bristol's Elder Island release first track from forthcoming sophomore album

'Feral' is the trio's first release since their acclaimed 2019 album, The Omnitone Collection.

Renowned electronic-pop trio Elder Island have released their first new single in more than 12 months, with the dark and haunting 'Feral' the first snippet of a forthcoming album expected to land in 2021.

Following on from the huge success of their 2019 debut, The Omnitone Collection, big things are expected from a band that emerged in Bristol in the mid-2010s and have gone on to sell out shows across the UK, Europe and North America.

Listen to 'Feral', as well as melodic B-side 'Absolute', here via Spotify.

Led by Katy Sargent's powerful vocals, the sinister 'Feral' paints a vivid picture of a recurring childhood nightmare, bursting with personality thanks to David Havard's dark synths flickering over a pulsating twist on the bossa nova beat.

The track has the urgency of an increasingly desperate warning, as though danger is closing in and time to escape is running out, a refreshing change of direction for the trio.

The single represents a major return to form for a band that haven't released their own music in well over a year, most recently sharing a well-received Ominitone Collection remix album in the summer of 2019.

Speaking on its release, Elder Island describe 'Feral' as "a standout track during our initial writing period for the new album."

"Birthed from an old Rhythm Ace FR-8L drum machine and a bass synth, it was a black sheep in its darkly driven, twisted sound," they explain.

Complimenting the urgency of 'Feral', the B-side, 'Absolute', is typically Elder Island, combining soft, choral vocals with subdued melodies and a steady 4/4 beat.

Ahead of their second album, the band are set to embark on a short headline tour of the UK & Ireland in 2021, including a Bristol performance at SWX on Thursday 11 March.
