Posted on: 18 Sep 2020

Get ready for new venue openings, a drive-in cinema and great weather.

You’ve got three days left to enjoy the summer - use it wisely. (Autumn starts on 22 September, if you didn’t know already.)

That should be easy if you’re in Bristol, though.

This weekend, several new venues open across the city, including contemporary DIY art and music venue Strange Brew.

Established venues will celebrate anniversaries with vibrant events, and October bookings for one of the summer’s most popular experiences go live on Friday 18 September at 17:00.

Here's eight things to do this weekend in Bristol.

Celebrate 13 years of BS3’s Southbank Club

Independent community arts venue Southbank Club celebrates thirteen years in business this weekend.

To mark the occasion, Southbank Club is throwing a birthday bash, complete with live music, open mic slots and a DIY BBQ.

Advanced booking is a must, but the tables are cheap to book. A table of two can secure a spot for just £3. Head to the Club’s Facebook Page to find out more. Inside the Southbank Club

Visit a drive-in cinema

A drive-in cinema arrived at the former Airfield in Filton this week, as part of a huge UK tour.

This weekend, Adventure Drive-In is showing films like Back to the Future, Joker and The Lion King.

Each film will be displayed on a giant LED screen, with sound transmitted via wireless speakers given to each car upon arrival.

Secure an October booking for Breaking Bread

Guess what? Breaking Bread, the outdoor dining experience on The Downs, has been extended into October!

Even better, October bookings open today (Friday 18 September) at 17:00.

Made up of a socially distanced tipi village, boasting 60 covered dining spaces and an alfresco pub garden, Breaking Bread sent Bristol into a frenzy when it launched in July.

Tables for the Pony & Trap and Loco x Ripiena restaurant pop-ups were snapped up in just days, and The Pipe and Lovers pub garden soon launched its own food menu due to popular demand.

This time around, The Pipe and Lovers pub garden will be brought under canvas, and menus will be ‘reimagined’ to provide a new take on traditional British pub grub.

If you want a taste of the action, head to the Breaking Bread website at 17:00 to secure a table.Breaking Bread to be extended into October

Can’t wait until October? Visit the Woky Ko pop-kitchen at Breaking Bread

Recently, Breaking Bread has started to invite guest traders to take over The Pipe and Lovers’ pub garden kitchen.

This weekend, you’ll find the team behind Woky Ko in the kitchen - they'll be serving up bao, beer and some cracking side dishes.

Celebrate The Gloucester Old Spot's 6th birthday with garden comedy

Colourful bunting, fairy lights and a castle for kids: The Gloucester Old Spot is a charming pub with an even better beer garden.

This weekend, the BS6 pub celebrates its 6th birthday.

To mark the occasion, The Gloucester Old Spot is hosting a garden comedy night on Sunday 20 September, with the help of the brilliant Mark Olver. Celebrate The Gloucester Old Spot's 6th birthday with garden comedy

Discover new openings

Several new venues will open this weekend in Bristol.

The eagerly-anticipated DIY arts and music venue from Bristol party collective Dirty Talk opens tonight, Friday 18 September.

Strange Brew can be found on Fairfax Street, near The Island and Rough Trade.

It features performance and exhibition spaces, a hefty café/bar area (pictured below) and a record store.

Strange Brew’s (seated) opening parties have now sold out, but there are more new venues to discover in Bristol this weekend.

In Southville, a new grocery shop and Italian eatery will open its doors for the first time tonight from 18:00.

Sonny Stores is a venture which first began as a lockdown project in Fishponds.

Due to the success of the project's #lockdownpizza, they’ve decided to open a permanent store. Nice!

A new bar and event space, Sidney & Eden, is also ready to celebrate its opening weekend.

Situated on Gloucester Road, the bar boasts a large tap wall, cocktails and the capacity to host live entertainment. To visit, you’ll need to book in advance. Inside Strange Brew

Support venues as they reopen to the public

As the summer draws to a close, more Bristol venues reopen to the public.

This weeked, Stokes Croft bar and music venue The Crofters Rights reopens with a two sit-down parties - one tonight (Friday 18 September) with Distilled Music and another tomorrow, with Dazed.

You don't have to book in advance to visit either sit-down party, but tables will be limited and allocated on a first come first served basis.

Popular Bristol brewery, Lost and Grounded, is also ready to welcome people back to its BS4 taproom tonight.

The taproom is reopening with the help of award-winning Mexican street food trader, Little Taquero. But remember! Advanced booking at Lost and Grounded is a must. The Crofters Rights
