Colston Hall and Bristol Plays Music launch online classes for young people

Posted on: 17 Apr 2020

The Virtual Academy has been set up to provide individual music lessons to young people in Bristol.

As gigs, concerts and festival performances continue to be postponed and cancelled for the foreseeable future due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the team at Colston Hall are having to divert their attention away from their popular live programming.

With much of their musical programming rescheduled for August onwards, they've teamed up with Bristol Plays Music to establish an innovative music education programme for young people.

The Bristol Plays Music Virtual Academy - one of several digital programmes set to be launched in the coming weeks - will bring music lessons direct to students online.

The Virtual Academy will offer lessons on most instruments for children and young people aged 7 to 18, and will be open to students of all abilities (excluding absolute beginners).

Bookable in blocks of 10 sessions, the scheme is expected to be an effective, short-term alternative to in-person teaching.

The Virtual Academy is also available at a subsidised cost for children of key workers, children in care and children of families financially affected by the Coronavirus outbreak.

Lessons will be 20 or 30 minutes long and delivered individually. The organisers recommend a 20-minute lesson for primary school-age children and 30 minutes for secondary, with the lessons due to be held between 09:00 and 17:00, Monday to Saturday.

If your child has always wanted to have a go on the guitar, try out the trumpet or play the piano, what better time to do so than in a lockdown?

To find out more about the Bristol Plays Music Virtual Academy, or to enquire about signing your child up for lessons, head to their website or get in touch via email.
