365’s week in review: 15th-19th April

Well, first off, we’d recommend you do – you never know what delights you’ll find! But, if you truly don’t have the time but still want to get the most out of 365, we’ve put together this quick round-up of all the most important news from this week!

 

Monday 15 April: Thekla celebrates 40th birthday with five nights of live music – and a book

Beloved music venue/floating vehicle Thekla announced this week that with their 40th anniversary coming up, they’re celebrating by releasing an archival history book, The Complete History of Thekla, and five nights of special, celebratory live music with artists like My Nu Leng, Kenya Grace and Soft Play (formerly Slaves).

 

Tuesday 16 April: Celebrate 50 years of hip hop at one of Bristol’s most iconic venues

From one massive birthday to another, Trinity Centre are celebrating half a decade of one of the world’s favourite music genres, and Bristol’s role in the scene. Hip-Hop at 50 will be jam-packed with unique and exciting events from paint parties to panel discussions, workshops to 90-minute dance sessions.

 

Wednesday 17 April: UB40 are playing an outdoor summer gig this year – and tickets are on sale tomorrow

Tickets went on sale this week for the hotly-anticipated upcoming return of UB40 ft. Ali Campbell (the splinter version of the band started by original frontman Ali Campbell) to Bristol, in a special summertime gig at the dockside Lloyds Amphitheatre. Tickets are on final release, but there are some left, so get yours now.

 

Thursday 18 April: Beloved Bristol illustrator to celebrate 10 years of music t-shirt designing

One more birthday this week as cult t-shirt artist Turbo Island (aka Christopher Wright) is celebrating ten years of his work – with the opening of a free exhibition at Kit Form in Jamaica St Studios, celebrating the work of Turbo Island. Afterwards, there’s also a Strange Brew party teaming up with arty party flagbearers Dirtytalk to commemorate the date!

 

Friday 19 April: Musical masterpiece Hamilton hits Bristol at the end of the month

Need we say much more? This multi-award-winning theatrical sensation has been rocking the world since its inception – and with it finally touring into Bristol, you won’t have to Wait For It much longer to have your chance to be in The Room Where It Happens.
