Another multi-award-winning musical is coming to Bristol in 2025

The “sexiest musical ever” (Metro) is back as opulent smash hit musical Chicago heads out on a massive tour of the UK and Ireland across 2024 and 2025.

 

Chicago runs at The Bristol Hippodrome from Monday 19 until Saturday 24 May 2025.

 

Set to the razzle-dazzle decadence of the roaring 20s, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her secret lover after he threatens to leave her. Desperate to escape conviction, she dupes everyone to transform her crime into a barrage of sensationalist headlines that wouldn’t be out of place in today’s tabloids.

Created by the musical theatre talents of John Kander, Fred Ebb and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse (All That Jazz, The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees), Chicago is a sexy, sassy score that features such show-stopping numbers as ‘Razzle Dazzle’, ‘Cell Block Tango’ and ‘All That Jazz’.

 

This beloved musical has won as many as six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy and is the longest-running American musical in the history of Broadway and the West End.

 

Since opening in New York in 1996, Chicago has wowed audiences in 38 countries and has been performed in English, Dutch, German, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, French, Danish, Japanese and Korean. Worldwide, it has been seen by an estimated 34 million people.

 

Chicago is based on Maurine Dallas Watkins’ play and has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The 1996 Broadway revival was choreographed by Ann Reinking in Fosse’s style, directed by Walter Bobbie and produced by Barry and Fran Weissler.

 

In addition to Bristol, the 2025 leg of Chicago’s UK and Ireland tour will drop by venues in Aberdeen, Cheltenham, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Oxford, Dublin, Belfast, Bournemouth, Nottingham, Birmingham, Cardiff, Wimbledon, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Hull, Norwich, Blackpool, Sunderland, Glasgow and more.
