A Tennessee Williams classic is coming to Bristol Old Vic next month

The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams runs at Bristol Old Vic from Tuesday 7 until Saturday 11 May 2024.
This critically acclaimed take on Tennessee Williams’ semi-autobiographical masterpiece - which premiered in 1944 and helped propel its writer into the public eye – will star Geraldine Somerville (Gosford Park, Harry Potter) as Amanda. Be sure to grab your ticket for this one!

In The Glass Menagerie, Tom Wingfield escapes his suffocating home with cigarettes and long trips to the movies while his sister, Laura, withdraws into her collections of records and glass animals.
However, their mother Amanda harbours dreams for her children far beyond the limits of their shabby apartment. When Tom brings home a potential suitor for his sister Laura, Amanda seizes the opportunity to attempt to change their fortunes forever.
The Glass Menagerie is a beautifully poetic portrayal of a family on the brink of change. This equally intimate and intense memory play from one of America’s most legendary playwrights explores the complex web of love and loyalty that binds families together.
It will be brought to life by award-winning director Atri Banerjee alongside a wonderful cast that features Geraldine Somerville (Gosford Park, The Gentlemen - onscreen) as Amanda, Kasper Hilton-Hille (The Face – Orange Tree Theatre) as Tom, Natalie Kimmerling as Laura (The Tempest – RSC) and Zacchaeus Kayode (The 14th Tale – Fuel Theatre) as Jim.
Having already ran at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry and the Malvern Festival Theatre, Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie is set to appear at The Rose Theatre, London; Bristol Old Vic; Theatre Royal Bath and Alexandra Palace, London.
