The Wardrobe's summer season, new website and box office freedom

The Wardrobe Theatre, a celebrated fringe theatre on Old Market, have announced their summer season shows – alongside a new-look website and a new era of independence for the venue.

The Wardrobe Theatre, an intimate fringe theatre within Old Market Assembly, have announced their brand new summer season – featuring over 40 new shows now on sale via their newly independent box office and new website.

The Wardobe’s summer season includes the continuation of staples like fan favourite improv soap opera Closer Each Day, popular storytelling jam Story Slam, and variety show The Lost Cabaret. Also returning will be smash-hit Christmas mashup show The Good, The Bad, and The Coyote Ugly.

Perhaps more exciting is what’s new, however: Bristol Pride will be partnering with the Wardrobe in July for two shows – a gender-swap revival of classic improv show Murder, She Didn’t Write (as Murder, He Didn’t Write), and Wreckage: a touching queer story about love that only evolves, and never dies.

Another team-up will also see Bristol Old Vic Theatre School present a summer festival comprising 8 cutting-edge contemporary plays. Each show will be a double-bill, with the option for a single or double-bill ticket. Showings include Black Mountain by Brad Birch, twinned with Jez Butterworth’s The River (May 23 – May 25) and a double bill of Samuel Bailey’s Shook and Lulu Raczka’s Some People Talk About Violence.

That’s just a taste of the dizzying array of comedy, theatre, spoken word, drag, LGBTQ+ and family shows coming to the Wardrobe Theatre – and if you’re looking to explore the rest, you’re in luck: the theatre have just given their website a major redesign and facelift. Check it out here.

All this also comes with some exciting news for the beloved fringe theatre – box office independence! Until now, the Wardrobe’s ticket sales have been proccessed via Tobacco Factory Theatres – but with these two other announcements, the theatre have announced that they are going their own way, which can only benefit the audience.

Again, to see the full summer programme including dates (and to pick up tickets), head to the Wardrobe’s website.
