Novelistic singer-songwriter John Grant is coming to Bristol in October

The witty and honest indie favourite is back on the road in October, touring his eagerly anticipated new album, The Art of The Lie – set for release in June.  

 

John Grant will play Bristol Beacon’s Beacon Hall on Friday 25 October 2024.

 

Conceived way back in autumn 2022, The Art of The Lie is Grant’s most opulent, cinematic, luxurious album yet. After an introduction to producer and composer Ivor Guest at Meltdown Festival, the pair collaborated on a record juxtaposed by beauty and cruelty and underpins an emotional chapter in the artist’s solo career.

Known for his unflinchingly honest songwriting, Michigan native John Grant has long garnered critical acclaim for his intelligent songs that span such personal themes as his experience as a gay man, struggles with addiction and scathing takes on societal issues.

 

After leaving his previous project, The Czars, in 2004, Grant emerged as a solo artist in 2010 with country-pop album, Queen of Denmark. This renowned debut was followed by more synth-pop-orientated material in subsequent records, notably Pale Green Ghost (2013) and Grey Tickles, Black Pressure (2015).

 

Now known as one of the most influential names in indie music, Grant has collaborated with such luminaries as the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Kyle Minogue, Sinéad O’Connor, Midlake, Elbow, Goldfrapp, Elbow and CMAT.

 

Grant’s upcoming seventh solo album, The Art of The Lie, is a piece of music that is earthed in deeply felt humanity and pitch-black realism. Themes include the 2024 political malaise of America and parenthood as the artist continues to build his novelistic world, with each new episode augmented by a new texture.

 

As well as Bristol, John Grant’s The Art of The Lie UK and Ireland tour will see him play venues in London, Sunderland, Glasgow, Dublin, Cardiff, Bexhill-On-Sea, Birmingham, Norwich, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. Visit the artist’s website for more information.
