Truly scrumptious news! A brand-new production of the much-loved family favourite is coming to The Bristol Hippodrome in Spring 2025.

 

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will run at The Bristol Hippodrome from Tuesday 29 April to Sunday 4 May 2025.

 

From acclaimed director Thom Southerland, this onstage adaptation of this beloved family favourite with an unforgettable score featuring songs from the Sherman Brothers including ‘Toot Sweets’, ‘Hushabye Mountain’, ‘Truly Scrumptious’ and, of course, the Academy Award-nominated title number, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.

This brand-new production will feature Emmerdale star Liam Fox as Grandpa Potts, with further casting still to be announced. Fox is best known for playing Dan Spencer in the ITV soap favourite but has also starred in Dancing on the Edge, Cold Feet, Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Touch of Frost and more.

 

The musical is based on Ian Fleming’s timeless children’s tale that later became the legendary 1968 flick. The story follows absent minded inventor Caractacus Potts who restores a beat-up racing car with the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy.

 

It soon becomes clear that the car has magical powers and, with help from the delectable Truly Scrumptious, the family embark on a hilarious and fantastical adventure to far off lands, meeting a colourful selection of characters along the way.

 

This new production will be directed by Thom Southerland (Titanic, Parade), choreographed by Karen Bruce (Strictly Come Dancing, The Bodyguard) and costume design from Morgan Large (Newsies, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat).

 

In addition to Bristol, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will appear at theatres in Southampton, Belfast, Torqyay, Glasgow, Norwich, Oxford, Liverpool, Stoke, Hull, Leicester, Bournemouth, Blackpool, Sheffield, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Sunderland, Plymouth and more.
