Bristol’s two-day festival of live music, social initiatives, timely debate, and local food and beverage has today announced a star-studded first wave of music acts.

Acclaimed British rapper Loyle Carner will headline the Saturday of the festival alongside alternative electronic favourite Four Tet while the Sunday will be headlined by dance-punk legends LCD Soundsystem alongside forward-thinking pop artist Jessie Ware in what looks to be another stellar programme from one of Bristol’s newest festivals.

Loyle Carner will headline the Saturday for his biggest Bristol appearance to date and only show for the city in 2024. Following a powerful performance on Glastonbury’s West Holts stage last year, and a headline set at All Points East later this year, the London hip-hop artist will bring his personal touch and socially engaged ethos to The Downs this summer.

The Saturday will also feature sets Four Tet, dynamic electronic duo Maribou State, eclectic Ninja Tunes signee Floating Points, The xx’s Romy, psychedelic RnB artist Greentea Peng, acclaimed contemporary jazz drummer Yussef Dayes, saxophonist Nubya Garcia, East London rapper Hak Baker, eclectic duo MRCY and French DJ double act Jersey

LCD Soundsystem will be closing the Bristol festival on Sunday night with their first Bristol gig in 14 years, dropping by the South West as part of their 2024 global tour. Spearheaded by the legendary James Murphy, the New York pioneers have helped shape the electronic music landscape with their genre-blending fusion of dance beats and punk.

Sunday’s lineup also includes sets from Jessie Ware, Leeds post-punk favourites Yard Act, suited and booted storyteller Baxter Dury, chart-topping country pop star CMAT, electronic mainstays Crazy P, Bristol-based singer-songwriter Holysseus Fly, and high energy reggae star Da Fuchaman.

With the full lineup still to be announced, this is sure to prove another weekend of top music acts as well as top discussion. Tom Paine (Team Love, co-founder) spoke about the announcement, saying:

“FORWARDS is back for its third year and we couldn’t be prouder. Each year it grows, evolves and delivers even more for the city of Bristol and beyond. From an international and genre-spanning music lineup to future thinking talks, and initiatives and with a growing-in-popularity kids area, FORWARDS is the perfect day out for everyone.”
