Bristol favourites IDLES release new single and announce intimate homecoming

Posted on: 16 Jan 2024

A new year begins and IDLES are back, ramping up anticipation for the release of their new album, TANGK as well as the major UK tour that will proceed it.

IDLES will play Bristol’s The Marble Factory (hosted by Rough Trade) on Saturday 17 February 2024.

This week, the band have unveiled the latest cut from their upcoming album (due for release on Friday 16 February), ‘Gift Horse’ with a special first play on Steve Lamacq’s BBC 6 Music show as well as a pop promo that can be watched below. Tickets for IDLES’ Bristol show go on sale at 10 AM on Friday 19 January 2024.

‘Gift Horse’ continues IDLES’ incredible musical journey and the ever-growing ambition of their new record, which has already been heard in part by the mantric euphoria of ‘Dancer’ and soulful slow burner, ‘Grace’.

Their latest single ups the ante from these previous efforts with a lean, taut intensity that is balanced by an undercurrent of gristly grooves and charismatic delivery from the band’s frontman, Joe Talbot. Despite this surface-level menace, it is also a sensitive track that celebrates redemption, love and communion.

Speaking about the single, Talbot has said: “Look at us go! Music and movement for you and yours. Be bold and ride us like the disco donkeys we are. Or at least watch our video.” The accompanying video finds unity between fantastical characters that lurk on society’s outskirts.

IDLES’ upcoming fifth studio album is all set to propel the band beyond what they achieved with 2021’s Crawler, a record which achieved two Grammy Award nominations and furthered one of the most inspiring band/fanbase connections around.

Alongside a new album release, the band has a busy 2024 planned with a myriad of shows scheduled. IDLES have this week announced that they will be playing three intimate out-store shows in February with dates in Kingston, London and Bristol.

The rest of the year will see the band play larger shows in Cardiff, Halifax, Margate, Cornwall, Belfast (SOLD OUT), Dublin (SOLD OUT), Glasgow, Newcastle, Nottingham (SOLD OUT), London, Brighton, Birmingham, Manchester (one of two dates SOLD OUT).
