Mull Historical Society Announces Bristol Show this Autumn

Posted on: 19 Mar 2026

With a new album and novel just around the corner, MULL HISTORICAL SOCIETY AKA Colin Macintyre will be taking his latest works out on the road in 2026.

With the next instalment of The Mull Mysteries crime fiction series, 'An Island Burning', set for release, Colin is also preparing to unveil his tenth studio album, 'In My Mind There’s A Photograph', arriving on 29 May via the LNFG label.

To celebrate both projects, the Scottish artist is curating a series of inventive live shows that promise a rich, multi-layered experience—blending music, storytelling, readings, audience Q&As, and appearances from special guests. These events aim to bring his work to life in an intimate and engaging way, offering fans a deeper connection to both his writing and music.

Ahead of the upcoming Album Relese and Tour, Colin has stated:

“'The ‘Society’ part of my music identity has always been the most important bit for me, so I’m very excited about bringing songs from my new album, as well as many from my back catalogue, to audiences around the UK. I’ve been flat out in creative mode but the act of creativity to me is really embodied in community and connection. For these shows I'll also be sharing stories and reading from my new Mull Mysteries novel, ‘An Island Burning’. The themes linking my two new releases reflect on war, childhood, place, identity, memory, family, survival — shining a light on hope, empathy and understanding — I hope just what we need in this fractured world. The concept of “home” in particular, and how it travels with us, always fascinates me, and I’m excited to bring my home island to society far and wide. Audiences can also expect a few featured authors and musicians as special guests, keep an eye out for further announcements!’”

Following on from the critical and commercial success of the previous record, 'In My Mind There's A Room’, Colin MacIntyre AKA Mull Historical Society delivers its direct successor ‘In My Mind There’s A Photograph’. Due for release on the LNFG label on May 29th, this fresh collection of songs will feature lyrical contributions from a panoply of world-leading authors, all of whom were asked to reflect on a single significant photo to them. Amongst the collaborators this time are best-sellers, Pulitzer, Booker, Costa, Women's Prize & Saltire Award-winners, including: Irvine Welsh, Ali Smith, Len Pennie, Jehan Bseiso, Louise Welsh, Irenosen Okojie, Paul Lynch, Colum McCann, Yiyun Lee, Alan Johnson, Dan Richards and Sir Alexander McCall Smith, on recent single “Cattle Bells” hear it here:

With Colin playing the ‘Elton to their Bernie', coupling his musical idiosyncrasies to their affecting words, together they have created 12 songs of vivid photographic realisation and a very real emotional resonance.

Alongside the album’s release on 29th May, 2026 finds Colin in the most creative and prolific form of his career. An established author in his own right, MacIntyre's fifth book, and the second in his Mull Mysteries Crime series, ‘An Island Burning’, is also out in April on Black & White Publishing/Bonnier Books. Set in the early days of the new millennium, this new adventure steps back into the shoes of Sgt Ivor Punch. As two burnt-out cars are discovered on a barren glen on the isle of Mull, Punch searches for the crux of the mystery by looking to the past - and this time, it's personal.

Elsewhere, MacIntyre has been perfecting his multi-genre musical, ‘Culloden’, for which he has written the script, book and music, which goes into pre-production in the first half of this year. Plus, with the 25th anniversary of his Gold-selling, album-of-the-year-polls-topper, ‘Loss’ coming around, expect further news on some special anniversary plans in due course…
