Show-stopping artwork returns to remind us “Bristol is Always a Good Idea”

The iconic Bristol Light Festival statement installation is to take centre stage in Bristol from tomorrow, turning up the heat for the busy summer season ahead.

 

‘Bristol is Always a Good Idea’ is a beloved light artwork from renowned artist Real Hackney Dave. Returning to the city tomorrow (Tuesday 9 July 2024) to kick off a vibrant summer of culture, cuisine, events and more, this artwork reinforces Bristol’s status as a must-visit destination when it comes to culture.

From tomorrow, the captivating light installation will return to the City Centre after initially being showcased at this year’s Bristol Light Festival, where it illuminated Valentine Bridge. The artwork will debut in Millennium Square before travelling around iconic Bristol spots, with businesses able to enter competitions to host the piece.

 

As ever, Bristol’s summer calendar is brimming with all kinds of events, from the lively maritime must-do that is Bristol Harbour Fest (Friday 19 - Sunday 21 July) where the artwork will be in prime position next to the new Expression Stage, to Old City Sounds, taking over the Old City with jazz and blues on Saturday 24 August.

 

On exciting music events including Massive Attack at The Downs on Sunday 25 August in the lowest carbon show of its size ever staged and Forwards Festival on Saturday 31 August – Sunday 1 September with jaw-dropping headline sets from LCD Soundsystem and Loyle Carner.

 

Away from live music, Bristol has a vibrant cultural scene, from award-winning attractions like We The Curious, now reopened, to the 15th anniversary of Bristol Pride, to the legendary Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. Friday 9 – Sunday 11 August. For art lovers, Bristol is also bursting with galleries, street art and more!

 

Bristol is also a city teaming with amazing independent food and drink vendors, whether that be award-winning bars, cosy cafes, bustling food markets or trendy restaurants. In addition to the touring installation, expect striking billboards displaying iconic Bristol scenes overlaid with the ‘Bristol is Always a Good Idea’ artwork.
