Don’t forget: celebrated theatrical history tours return in July

Show of Strength Theatre, creators of celebrated theatrical history walking tours, are bringing back two of their most popular walks in both Bath & Bristol this July.

Show of Strength are a local theatre company who provide theatrical walking tours around Bristol & Bath – exploring their history from the dark, to the funny, and everything in-between. With summer finally here, and walking weather with it, Show of Strength are strolling into a brand new season of excitement and education.

SoS are bringing back two of their most popular past walks: beginning with the Clifton-based walk ‘Crime and Crinolines In Clifton’. Described by poet laureate John Betjeman as “the handsomest suburb in Europe”, Clifton is full of stories from a jilted barmaid’s brush with death to a runaway Empress; and the only forger sentenced to death to keep his head and get it on a banknote. You can discover all these and more with Show of Strength’s two-hour tour of the area – Clifton will never look the same again.

In Bath, you can explore the ‘Frankenstein in Bath’ walk: the first ever walking tour launched by Show of Strength. Frankenstein in Bath explores the historic city’s role in Mary Shelley’s writing process for her iconic novel, Frankenstein. In 2021, Bath’s House of Frankenstein opened to celebrate the very same story and SoS have partnered with them for a combined ticket experience – do the tour (which ends at the house), have a cocktail and explore Frankenstein’s House.

Both of these shows start this coming month, but you can catch the rest of Show of Strength’s stable of seven different walking tours already – including the ever-popular ‘Blood, Blackbeard and Buccaneers’, which recently received five stars from Get Your Guide to add to its other acclaimed reviews.

To see the full programme of walking tours available, you can head to Show of Strength’s website.
