Since forming in Glasgow during the mid-1990s, Belle and Sebastian have released as many as twelve studio albums to widespread critical acclaim and established themselves as one of UK indie’s best-loved and most successful bands.

The band’s debut record Tigermilk (1996), sophomore effort If You’re Feeling Sinister (also 1996) and 1998’s seminal album The Boy with the Arab Strap are all seen as indie pop staples and, to this day, Belle and Sebastian enjoy a fervent worldwide audience, filling such esteemed venues as The Hollywood Bowl and Radio City Music Hall.

In 2010, Stuart Murdoch’s online diaries were collected into his first book, The Celestial Café. Two years later, he scripted, composed and directed the movie God Help The Girl, a musical coming-of-age drama starring Olly Alexander of Years & Years fame.

Murdoch has long been an outspoken advocate for sufferers of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a long-term condition that he himself has experienced. He is an Ambassador for the Open Medicine Foundation, a non-profit that works to promote awareness of ME/CFS.

In addition to Bristol, Stuart Murdoch will be presenting an evening of reading, songs and live Q&A to celebrate his debut novel, Nobody’s Empire, at venues in Cambridge, Brighton, London, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
