Brand new Bedminster venue to launch this weekend

Posted on: 30 Apr 2024

This weekend, Friday 3 May, will see the opening party for St Dunstan’s House – a brand new Bedminster venue based out of a 17th century church.

St Dunstan’s House is a brand new venue in Bedminster based out of a 17th Century church on Bedminster Down Rd. Formerly a co-working space, it’s a gorgeous venue for the brand new venue, who are rolling out a pretty electrifying gig to kick off their opening night.

The event, which St Dunstan’s (or the ‘House of Dunce’) refer to as “a journey through soundscapes crafted by the most talented artists in the scene.”, will be headlined by a live performance from Stone Cold Hustle. SCH are a local 7-piece funk & neo-soul band sewn together from a vibrant fabric of Bristol heavyweights, with members from Run Logan Run to the LBJBs. Fans of the Canteen will be familiar with their upbeat grooves, as they regularly headline there for their beloved (and regularly sold-out) funk jam.

Joining SCH are a trio of powerful and talented DJs. First off is Steve Rice – one of the DJs behind Downbeat Melody System, and a veteran of Bristol’s reggae and soundsystem culture. Following up Steve will be Lexxi – co-founder of female multigenre DJ collective Peachin’, who has performed at nights across Bristol, as well as festivals like Glastonbury & Shambala. Finally, Bristol legend Drifty – responsible for Glastonbury’s Shangri-La and the Roomtone/Hold Tight Records families – will be making an appearance to cap off the night.

It sounds like an excellent night, with an eclectic mix of genres from dancehall, to amapiano, UK Funky and who knows what else – but furthermore, St Dunstan’s looks like it could be Bristol next big underground venue: this could be a chance to be at the launch of something truly big.
