Avant-jazz no-wave Bristolian Bingo Fury is coming back to Bristol’s Jam Jar for a debut album launch show this Saturday, 20 April.

Bingo Fury is the musical persona of Jack Ogborne – the character of Bingo is a vessel for the surreal world he creates through his haphazardly constructed, yet remarkably personal, lyrics. With an avant-jazz approach to meticulous and often melancholic songwriting, Bingo conjures a world of monochrome characters in hazy settings with a seedy Broadway sheen.

Bingo teams up with his criminally talented permanent band to deliver his furiously inventive ‘no-wave’ music – Meg Jenkins (bass), Henry Terrett (drums), Harry Furniss (cornet) and Rafi Cohen (guitar, glockenspiel, piano). After an acclaimed EP and single, Bingo’s debut album, Bats Feet For A Window, was released February 16 - and now Bingo and co. are celebrating that fact with an album launch party at Bristol’s Jam Jar.

Bats Feet is a powerful album; recorded in a local Bristol church, the album explores Ogborne’s tangled feelings toward his own religious upbringing. As well as his low, crooning vocals, and the skilful performances of the band, other inventive, fascinating sounds can be picked out through the tracks: from tossed house keys to the ringing of wine glasses.

The album launch party – this Saturday, 20 April – is set to be special. Bingo will be joined by not only his usual 4-piece band, but also an extended lineup of musicians who also contributed to the album: Nathan Piggot (saxophone), Wilf Cartwright (cello) and Joe Jones (tape loops / electronics), making a grand 8-piece band total for a gale-force musical experience.

Joining the band as support for the debut album launch will be local underground favourites & freak-folk trio Foot Foot; a perfect complement to the strange and compelling sounds of Bingo Fury.

Bingo Fury’s album launch party takes place this Saturday, 20 April, at the Jam Jar. For tickets, head to their website – and to hear the new album, check out Bingo’s bandcamp.
