Posted on: 12 Apr 2024

Running across the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, this immensely popular annual event offers unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the 80,000-square-foot arts space.

Spike Island’s Open Studios 2024 run from Friday 3 until Sunday 5 May 2024.

Visitors to Spike Island will be free to explore this integral aspect of the South West’s cultural ecosystem and one of the UK’s largest spaces for contemporary art. This vital artistic hub always offers a diverse programme, including free major exhibitions, events, and engagement activities.

This event is FREE to attend, browse the full weekend programme on the Spike Island website.

With much of the building closed to the public during the rest of the year, this is a rare chance to immerse yourself in the Spike Island community, learn about a wide range of creative practices (from graphic design to sculpture), see works-in-progress, and even buy original pieces from both emerging and established talent.

In addition, there will be a variety of Bristol street food vendors, situated across the site to fuel your Open Studios visit, including festival favourites such as Small Fire Pizza, Cibomatto.bristol and Houria. Of course, Spike Island’s popular on-site Emmeline café will also be serving up colourful salads, toasties, cocktails, and coffees all weekend.

On Friday 3 May, visitors can expect a series of instalments, performances, film, spoken word, anti-fashion shows, music and more as part of an exciting and diverse programme presented by UWE BA Fine Art students as well as various creatives.

Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 will be jam-packed with various kids and adult workshops, in-conversation events, demonstrations, art exhibits, film screenings, sound pieces and VR demos as well as showcases and installations that will be open throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

Spike Island’s Open Studios 2024 is FREE and runs from Friday 3 until Sunday 5 May 2024. Find out more HERE.
